There’s an ideal way to discover the Landes coast: by bike, the wind in your face, between the scent of pines and the salt of the ocean. In Hossegor, you’re right on La Vélodyssée, the longest cycle route in France — and the best part: our apartments open straight onto the paths, with a secure bike room to store yours. Hop on, pedal, you’re already off.

What is La Vélodyssée?

La Vélodyssée is the French section of EuroVelo 1, the Atlantic coast route: over 1,300 km from Roscoff (Brittany) to Hendaye (Basque Country), largely on safe greenways away from cars. In the Landes, it crosses the state forest and runs along the beaches, linking Seignosse, Hossegor and Capbreton. The path is flat to gently rolling, perfectly surfaced and very well signposted: one of the most beautiful sections of the whole route, and suitable for the whole family.

Starting from your apartment, in Hossegor

That’s the whole point of staying here: the cycle paths begin at the foot of the residence. No car needed, no carrying bikes around — you wheel them out of the building’s bike room and you’re on La Vélodyssée within minutes. Perfect for a half-day or a full-day ride, then back to rinse off the salt (or the pine dust) with no detour. The storage cellar takes the surfboards; the bike room takes the wheels.

4 itinerary ideas (from shortest to most sporty)

1. The easy ride: Hossegor → Capbreton (≈ 5 km one way)

Ideal with the family or for a first outing. Head south to the port of Capbreton along the greenway: follow the beach, reach the estacade pier and its lighthouse, wander the harbour and the fish market to pick up the day’s catch. Allow a relaxed morning, gourmet stops included.

2. The nature loop: around the Hossegor sea lake (≈ 7.5 km)

A great classic, on foot or by bike depending on the section: the loop around the sea lake winds through a shaded route dotted with panels on the wildlife, the flora, oyster farming and local history. Perfect at sunrise or late afternoon, when the light plays on the water. Possible reward: an oyster tasting by the lake.

3. The half-day forest & ocean: Hossegor → Seignosse → Vieux-Boucau (≈ 18-20 km one way)

Head north. The path winds through the Seignosse state forest, among the pines, with lovely glimpses of the wild beaches of Seignosse Océan, then runs on to Vieux-Boucau and its sea lake. A half-day round trip, or lunch on the spot before heading back.

4. The connoisseurs’ day: up to Messanges and Léon (≈ 30-35 km one way)

For more experienced cyclists (or e-bikes), push on to Messanges, Moliets and the charming village of Léon and its lake. Continuous forest, sea air, Landes villages: a real day of escape. Bring water, a snack and something for the lunch break.

Practical tips

  • When to go? Spring and autumn are perfect: mild weather, beautiful light and quiet paths. In summer, favour the morning or late afternoon.
  • Electric bike? Ideal for longer stages or with children; several rental shops operate in Hossegor, Seignosse and Capbreton.
  • With the family: the Seignosse–Hossegor–Capbreton sections are secure greenways shared with pedestrians — ride at a gentle pace.
  • Safety: helmet recommended, lights if you return at dusk, and a lock for stops. Back home, the residence’s bike room keeps your bikes safe.
