48 hours in Hossegor without surfing: what to do beyond the waves

Hossegor is the European capital of surfing — but it would be a shame to reduce it to its waves. Between the pine forest, the sea lake, Belle Époque villas and sunny terraces, the resort is just as enjoyable with your feet on the ground. Here’s our plan for 48 hours in Hossegor without surfing: ideal for non-surfers, families or an off-season stay, steps from our apartments.

Strolling through the heart of Hossegor

Start in the centre, among shops, galleries and cafés. Hossegor has kept the charm of its Basque-Landes architecture: Roaring Twenties villas with timber framing and colourful shutters, inherited from the resort’s golden age. A simple walk, eyes upward, is already worth the detour.

The market and the Landes art of living

You can’t visit Hossegor without tasting its art of living. Head to the market for local produce, then to a terrace for lunch almost with your feet in the sand. A few minutes away, the port of Capbreton lines up its fishermen’s huts and its fish market — the perfect spot for seafood by the water.

Nature within easy reach

Here, nature is everywhere. The sea lake unrolls its shaded promenade, the state forest invites you to walk or cycle, and on a clear day the view stretches all the way to the Pyrenees. Two ways to enjoy it: on foot around the lake, or by bike on La Vélodyssée — the paths start at the foot of the residence.

The finest sunsets on the coast

The essential ritual: sunset drinks on the beach. Facing the Atlantic, the sky catches fire, the surfers come in and the beach turns into an open-air lounge. Bring a blanket, a few charcuterie boards, and enjoy one of the most beautiful sights on the Landes coast — free, every evening.

When night falls: concerts, markets and events

In season, Hossegor comes alive: open-air concerts, night markets, vintage car gatherings, surf events and overflowing terraces. Even off-season, the centre and the port of Capbreton keep a real evening buzz. Check the local calendar when you arrive: there’s almost always something on.

A stone’s throw from your apartment

All of this is within walking or cycling distance of our 4-star beachfront apartments: the beach right downstairs, the centre and the lake a few minutes away, and the bike room to explore without a car. Enough to fill 48 hours — or a whole week — without ever touching a board.

Frequently asked questions

What can you do in Hossegor if you don’t surf?

The loop around the sea lake, a walk or a bike ride in the forest, the market and the terraces, the port of Capbreton, and of course the sunsets on the beach. Hossegor is just as enjoyable without a board.

Is Hossegor worth visiting off-season?

Yes. In spring and autumn, the light is superb, prices are gentler and the resort is quieter. The lake, the forest and the terraces can be enjoyed all year round.
